System Error Releases Killer 5-Track EP From Otis
Lose yourself in the hallucinatory realm of the ‘Cocoon of Fantasies and Illusions’ EP
“System Error” might be the most on-brand name for a label started in 2020. Whether you turned into a cat on Zoom or not, I think we can all agree that there were some systemic errors that made the world feel like it needed to hit CTRL + ALT + DEL and restart. With the risk of stretching metaphor too far, System Error does reboot in 2021 with a tasty and chunky 5-tracker from Berlin-based producer and hardware aficionado Otis.
Otis has been racking up some production notches on his belt for the past couple of years, with appearances on EYA and Partisan records, not to mention a debut EP on Riccardo’s Amazing Stories imprint. But, from the sounds of it, he’s also been retooling his time wobbling sound during lockdown. His Mudd Show appearance may have been slept on, but it remains among their best.
Similar to that set, Otis slides between genres across the EP. We get tastes of proper electro funk (“Just a Game” and “Anima”), distorted breakbeat nightmares (“Wreaks Havoc”), never-ending party grooves (“Taking Control”), and whatever you want to try and call the melodic madness of “Inborn Archetype.” Following up on the heels of in-demand Italian, Robbenspierre, Otis steps up to the plate and solidifies System Error as a label to watch.
