Sol Asylum Relaunches Digitally With The Mesmerising ‘Healing Methods’ EP By Label Head Julie Marghilano
The four tracks deliver a cutting-edge, modern production style mixing dancefloor sounds with more dreamy and laidback sonorities
Underground queen Julie Marghilano announces the comeback of the renowned Sol Asylum imprint in a digital format - despite the challenges of pressing vinyl right now the label intends to stay active by investing in new releases in digital format - these will be sold exclusively through the Bandcamp of the label, starting from this first release by non-other than Julie herself.
This EP builds on the concept of therapy (as the press release reads, the EP was created in fact as a form of therapy over the past 2 years), other than the title track ‘Healing Methods’ you got suggestive titles in this direction such as ‘Sun Treatment’ and ‘The Remedy’, other than the quasi-manifesto announcement of the opening track title, ‘Therapy’.
But the therapeutic intention of this work shines beyond its titles and announcements - stylistically the music contrasts a mesmerising harmonic touch to a certain strength. I’m thinking for example of the opening track, where you got floaty, dreaming pads in combination of a punchy rhythm and even amen breaks taking over the rhythmic parts in certain moments, or also the wonderful groovy dancefloor meditations of ‘Sun Treatment’. But probably what best shows this contrast I am referring to is the track which we are premiering in full here, the title track ‘Healing Methods’. The bass is sharp, the rhythm fast and enthralling, strictly dancefloor-oriented. But as the track progresses you’ll be surprised, as it’s unexpected, tingling synth arpeggios bringing the sound to a more melodic level, in a quasi-hypnotic (could be referred to as ‘healing’) way.

In its total, the tracks blend different electronic music styles and show a skilful yet sometimes unusual production and sound design. This EP is something very interesting and gets us excited to hear what else Sol Asylum has been cooking in the last couple of years to release in its new digital format.
Make sure to check out the whole EP - a special mention needs to go to the closing track ‘The Remedy’ as well, which works on a different, slower tempo with piano, percussive rhythms, and moving baseline: a pure, deep Larry Heard-styled piece.
