Positive Future Delivers Its Brain-Melting Second Record
With this release by Twin, the underground Parisian label pushes its sound to bouncy lysergic realms
We discovered the Positive Future label earlier this year through their first VA EP - when we approached them to plan something and worked on this feature regarding some of their main record influences, we got even more interested in their work. Both their influences and first release made clear how the project is intended to play on specific positive and playful moods, but at the same time span among different genres and push the boundaries of interesting dancefloor-oriented electronic music of the current times.
In this sense, nothing about this second release is a letdown. The label hosts London-based producer Twin, for his first-ever EP, delivering an underground sound mainly inspired by London nights out in places like Cartulis, Pickle Factory, Fold, Lion & Lamb and most importantly illegal raves around the city - the main scope of it is delivering something fun to dance to.
The release opens with the bouncy and minimalistic ‘F70’, a tight rhythmic and deep groovy work, one to get the dancefloor going, while the A2 ‘Mapped’ brings a darker house mood with rave bells and raw lead combination reminding of some Uruguayan Phonotheque records. plus an amazing work on the sharp hi-hats nicely slicing up the main loop.
Turn the record and there’s another example of the great production skills of Twin, the psychedelic ‘Easy Peeler’ delivers a complex hypnotic loop where different sounds alternate to form a groove that is as original as it is banging. One for the deep end of the night. Finally, the record also presents a remix of this track by Gaab (aka Gabriel Belabbas, one of the two founders of Positive Future), which we are delighted to premiere in full. High energy rhythms, synth arpeggios and an acid lead - this track almost hints at 90s trance aesthetics without all the cheesiness. We just can’t wait to hear this played on the dancefloor and hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
The release hits as one of the best of the year and a surprising output from a debut producer. This makes us not only excited to hear more from Positive Future, but surely also to look forward to Twin’s next projects and releases.
